The Aldabra Giant Tortoise is a giant species of Tortoise which inhabits in Aldabra Islands in the Indian Ocean. It is the largest and the longest living animal in the world, which is reaching to the age of more than 250 years. The Aldabra Giant Tortoise is the only Indian Ocean giant Tortoise species alive today as others have now become extinct.In several cultures of the world, there exists the concept of a gigantic turtle that holds up the Earth. Many versions of are found in the countries like India, China as well as North America. Hence, many countries have undertaken the work to safeguard this nearly extinct species.
One of the activities undertaken is to create awareness among the masse, which was primarily done by issuing Postage Stamps. Many countries such as India, UAE, Spain etc. in collaboration with UNESCO has issued stamps with different denominations featuring the Aldabra Giant Tortoise.
